San Giovanni in
Fiore Hospital |
 When
ACHA President and Founder, Albert Andy, visited the small Calabrian
town of San Giovanni in Fiore in southern Italy he simply wanted to
reconnect with family. What happened resulted not only in the beginning
of Audia Caring Heritage Association but a commitment to help the
people of the region. Southern Italy is rich in history and agriculture
but is in need of modern medical equipment. Since making the commitment
to assist in improving the quality of life for the residents of Calabria
, ACHA has donated over $400,000 in medical equipment including, but
not limited to, a GE Hi-Speed Scanner (CT scan), video laparoscope
and other diagnostic equipment. |
Medical Educational
Exchange |
 The
Pennsylvania and West Virginia chapters of ACHA have joined forces
to sponsor a Medical Educational Exchange between the hospital in
San Giovanni in Fiore and several hospitals in Southwestern Pennsylvania
and West Virginia .
The first phase of this project was to bring
four doctors to American to observe new medical procedures that
will enable them to better use the equipment purchased by ACHA.
Doctors are several local hospitals and medical offices
generously opened their doors to the doctors. The physicians who
were instrumental in organizing the exchange were Dr. Michael Bonidie,
Dr. James Pareso, Dr. Lisa Cibik, Dr. Jack Kraus, Dr. Gary Marano
and the late Dr. Anthony DiBartolomeo.
Phase two of the exchange will be for ACHA
to send American doctors to Italy along with medical students from
West Virginia Medical University to study in the hospitals and provide
an opportunity for Italian medical staff to learn need techniques.
ACHA has plans to continue the exchange to include laboratory staff
and nurses. |
Vintage House Library
|
 ACHA
Pennsylvania chapter donated $5,000 to the residents of the East
Liberty section of Pittsburgh by establishing a Multi-media
Health and Wellness Library for senior citizens at the Vintage
House. Dr. Michael Bonidie of Mt. Lebanon thanked the ACHA Trustees
at a ribbon cutting ceremony and said, “Many of the elderly who
are served by Vintage House have limited reading skills and find
medical terminology difficult to understand. Offering videos will
allow patients to view the information about how to care for their
medical needs after the doctor's visit is over. Instead of a diabetic
patient having to read the information telling how to test their
blood sugar levels how to care for wounds they can see and hear
the person on the video explain it to them.” |
Dental Suites |
 The
need for improved dental health care prompted ACHA to fund projects
at the Health Right Clinic in West Virginia and the Jock Yablonsky
Centerville Clinic in Pennsylvania . These clinics will be able
to double the number of dental patients due to ACHA funding. |
Holiday Angels |
Holiday Angels understand the importance happiness can add to
a person's mental health, ACHA provides Christmas baskets to families
in crisis through the Washington Women's Shelter and warm sweaters
to patients at the Washington County Health Center . Thanks to
the generosity of one ACHA supporter we also gave Steelers Football
hat to many of the fans living at the health center.
Recently in 2007, ACHA donated dining room tables and chairs
to the Washington City Mission's Avis Arbor Women and Children's
Shelter so mothers and children would be able to sit and have
dinner together and regain some sense of family. The organization
also provided folding tables and chairs so theat all residents
would be able to celebrate the holidays together. Cookware, window
treatments and a vacuum cleaner also were dontated.
